Antica ed assai illustre famiglia, la quale ha occupato un ragguardevole posto nella nobiltà rurale dello stato feudale di Coira, nel Cantone dei Grigioni. Le prime notizie, relative all'esistenza di tal casato, si rinvengono già nel XIII. In un istrumento del 1271, infatti, risulta che il Cavaliere Egeno von Camminada, ed i suoi due figli Giovanni e Nicola, cedono alcuni fondi all'Ospizio di S. Pietro, presso Septimer. Da altri documenti pubblicati dal Von Salis apprendiamo che, nel 1384, Ulrico von Camminada otteneva l'investitura del feudo di Zschorschen, a Tinzen, dal Vescovo Hartmann, Vicario imperiale in Coira, e che, nel 1400, lo stesso Vescovo confermava alla famiglia l'arma gentilizia, consistente in un montone bianco in campo rosso; stemma che tutt'ora vedesi dipinto sulla volta della grande sala d'ingresso di quel Vescovado, insieme a quelli delle altre famiglie nobili grigionesi.
