Nobility crown CancillierLa Chenays-de-Bois, un des auteurs de la généalogie de cette maison, fait remonter la filiation à Geoffroy Chancel, chevalier de l'ordre du Roi, sire de Coêkvy et de Quinquené, en Bretagne, commandant de l'armée de Louis XII en Périgord, où il mourut après avoir remis l'évêque dans son siège épiscopal, le 2 mai 1521, et fut enterré dans l'eglise collégiale de Saint-Front. Du mariage du dit Geoffroy avec Marie de la Grange, fille de Jean, seigneur d'Enguien, grand-maìtre de l'artillerie de France, sont provenues toutes les branches dénommées ci-dessus, lesquelles forment dix degrés successifs jusqu'en 1778, dont le sixième est François-Joseph, chevalier, seigneur de la Grange, plus connu sous le nom de Lagrange-Chancel, et d'Antoniac, nè à Périgueux le 1er janvier 1676, conseiller, maitre d'hôtel ordinaire de la maison de Madame Elisabeth-Charlotte duchesse d'Orléans, auteur de plusieurs pièces de théâtre et des "Philippiques", qui le firent exiler de France, où il ne retra qu'en 1728, après la mort du duc d'Orléans. Cette famille a été maintenue dans sa noblesse par ordonnance du 5 mai 1668, de M. Pellot, et a figuré, à Périgueux, aux assemblées de la noblesse en 1789, où l'on voit comme secrétaire Pierr-Ausone de Chancel, écuyer, avocat au parlement. ...
