Al dir di illustri genealogisti, i membri della famiglia di Forlì sarebbero una diramazione di quelli di Bergamo, colà radicatasi nel secolo XVI; le armi delle due famiglie sono, però, diverse. Parimenti vuolsi che un altro ramo si sia stabilito nelle Marche, ove avrebbe modificato l'originario cognome in Canestrini. Mancando d'elementi per giudicare di tutto ciò, ci limiteremo a dire che il primo di questa famiglia forlivese, nel quale c'incontriamo, é un Francesco, morto l'anno 1622 e tumulato con una lapide molto onorifica nella soppressa chiesa di S.
