Nobility crown CanettiAntica famiglia lombarda, detta Canetta o Canetti, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di autorevoli genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata in una forma ipocoristica del nome medioevale "Cane", appartenuto, probabilmente, ad un, oggi ignoto, capostipite. Per onor di completezza, però, dobbiamo precisare come, secondo alcuni autori, tal famiglia discenderebbe dal nobile casato brettone dei Canet. In ogni modo, tal famiglia, verosimilmente, venne ammessa agli onori ed ai privilegi del cavalierato, in virtù dei fedeli servigi prestati ai Visconti da un Giovanni Canetti, milite sotto i vessilli del signore di Pesaro, Carlo Malatesta, al quale Filippo Maria Visconti, nel 1426, affidò il comando, per contrastare Venezia.
