Nobilissima famiglia dal quale ancora oggi prende nome una piazza di Roma, dove era il magnifico palazzo, oggi dei principi Spada. Non si deve confondere con l'omonima famiglia veronse. Sono ricordati in moltissimi documenti di cui fece lo spoglio il cav. Iacovacci. Il più antico è del 1238. I Capodiferro sono sempre detti Nobili Domini. Girolamo Capodiferro, nato a Roma il 22 giugno 1502, fu Nunzio in Portogallo, quindi in Francia, tesoriere della Camera Apostolica, vescovo di Nizza e finalmente cardinale il 19 dicembre 1544. Prese parte al Cancilio di Trento e morì nel 1559. La famiglia Capodiferro è ricordata fra le nobili ed illustri di cui si fece l'elenco sotto il pontificato di Papa Martino V.
