Il commendator G.B. di Crollalanza riporta la blasonatura di questa famiglia nei volumi del suo Dizionario storico blasonico delle famiglie nobili e notabili italiane. Nelle sue Cronache di Vincenzo Massila, sulle famiglie nobili di Bari, scritta nell'anno 1567, ed ora per la prima volta messa in luce con note, giunte e documenti, stampato in Napoli nello stabilimento tipografico dell'unione nel 1881. Il blasone della famiglia Carapresa è: Di rosso, a tre semivoli destri spiegati d'argento, uno movente dal fianco destro dello scudo, l'altro dal sinistro e il terzo dal canton sinistro della punta, sormontati da una luna montante del medesimo posta nel punto d'onore. Che la famiglia abbia un'origine molto antica, non v'ha dubbio. Il cognome di questa antica famiglia è sicuramente un patronimico, cioè trae origine da qualche antenato della stessa, che per virtù e onore diede il suo nome a tutta la sua discendenza. Nei ricordi dei tempi andati si leggono alcune varianti di questo cognome, dovute alle solite cause della pronunzia dialettale e dal modo di interpretare nella scritturazione i cognomi. Da molte antiche memorie, e autentiche scritture, che si hà vedute della nobilissima famiglia, chiaramente si scorge, che dimorava in Lucera, ove in molte imprese militari i personaggi di questa Casa ferono chiara la lor virtù. ...
