Antica ed assai nobile famiglia della Sardegna, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Tal forma cognominale è antichissima: le prime attestazione si hanno già nel 1100 nel Regno di Logudoro. Parimenti alcuni Carboni(s) compaiono nell'atto di pace del 1388 tra la Corona d’Aragona e il Regno d’Arborea. La nobile famiglia Carboni di cui trattiamo vuolsi però abbia cominciato la sua genealogia nel 1580, anno in cui compare in Fonni, centro dell'antica subregione storica della Barbagia di Ollola.
