La nobilissima famiglia Carrocci trae le sue antiche origini da Rivarolo, dove già nel 1410 possedeva terre e onori; in quell’anno, il valoroso Gabriele ottenne la singolare facoltà di contrassegnare con proprio marchio le opere da lui forgiate nel ferro, segno di riconosciuta perizia e stima. Sul finire del secolo decimosesto, il prode Tommaso ricopriva la carica di capitano delle milizie nella valle di Lanzo, e suo figlio Filippo ascese alla dignità di senatore. Questi, insieme al fratello Pietro, fu investito nell’anno 1642 di porzione delle terre di Villeforchiardo. Il medesimo Pietro, nel 1652, venne insignito del titolo di conte, fu ambasciatore di Savoia presso la corte di Francia, e primo Presidente della Camera. Bernardino, suo figlio, ricevette in dono nel 1667 parte delle terre di San Giorgio e, due anni dopo, fu investito del contado di Castellamonte.
