Antica ed illustre famiglia laziale, con residenza nella città eterna, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Tal famiglia venne nobilitata, da S.M. il re Vittorio Emanuele III, con regio Decreto, motu proprio 21 agosto 1922, col titolo di conte (mpr) e col predicato onorifico di Villareia (mf), con Regio Decreto motu proprio 24 giugno 1923 RR. LL. PP. 29 luglio 1923, in riconoscimento di altissime eccezionali benemerenze nella guerra italo-austriaca, compiute nell'alto adriatico, dall'ufficiale di aviazione Eugenio Casagranda (Roma, 3 settembre 1892 - Venezia, 1º dicembre 1977), nel 1918, e per le quali ottenne la medaglia d'oro al valor militare. La famiglia, inoltre, risulta iscritta nel Libro d'oro in persona del detto Eugenio, di Villareia, deputato al Parlamento.
