L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di illustri genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata nel nome di una antica località, caratterizzata dalla presenza di una casa rosa, probabilmente, luogo natio di un, oggi ignoto, capostipite. In ogni modo, tal casato, verosimilmente, venne fregiato del cavalierato, in seguito alla partecipazione, connotata da coraggio ed onore, sotto i vessilli della Santa Lega, di un Leopoldo Casarosa, al celebre fatto d'armi della Battaglia di Lepanto, del 1571. Ma, d'altronde, la famiglia, sempre, riuscì a distinguersi, grazie agli elevati personaggi, a cui diede i natali. Tra questi, ricordiamo: Alessandro, dottore in "utroque jure", vivente in Pisa, nel 1434; Riccardo, notaio, operante in Pisa, dal 1451 al 1487; Filippo Maria, dottore in "utroque jure", vivente in Pisa, nel 1512; P.
