Antica ed illustre famiglia sassarese, le cui notizie risalgono al secolo XIII. Inizialmente appartenente alla nobiltà minore, grazie ad un buon patrimonio fondiario, nelle vicinanze di Sassari, assurse a notevole importanza durante il periodo comunale, tanto che un Matteo fu tra gli ambasciatori della città che trattarono la dedizione di Sassari agli aragonesi. Un Bartolomeo, poi, fu investito del feudo di Galtellì, ma nel 1370 i suoi discendenti vendettero il feudo ai Graffeo. Nel 1439 un Franceschino ebbe il riconoscimento della generosità. Altro ramo.
