Nobility crown CavalloAntica ed illustre famiglia, di origine portoghese, giunta in Amantea con un Antonino, di Martino, Cavallo, nobile portohese, ove venne iscritta, in remotissimi tempi, al seggio di S. Basilio. Il casato, poi, ottenne, ereditariamente, l'ufficio di portulano, custode dei porti e delle spiagge delle Calabrie, come da privilegio della regina Giovanna II d'Angiò, confermato dai re Alfonso e Ferdinando d'Aragona, e, nel 1502, da Consalvo di Cordova. Vestì l'abito di Malta nel 1595, e fu infeudata di Pietramala, in persona del nobile capitano Scipione Cavallo. Tra i personaggi che, maggiormente, diedero lustro a tal famiglia, senza nulla levar al valore degli omessi, ricordiamo: Giacomo, giudice della gran corte di Vicaria, sotto la regina Giovanna II; Virgilio, che tenne galera a proprie spese e combatté alla battaglia di Lepanto, del 1571; Rutilio, il quale fondò il convento dei cappuccini, in Amantea; Fra Bonaventura, commissario generale dei francescani, morì nel 1687, vescovo ...
