Linaje originario de Portugal, de donde lo trajeron a España dos caballeros portuguéses llamados Hernán García C. y Pedro García C., que vinieron a servir al Rey de Castila. El primero, Hernán García C., hizo asiento en Ciudad-Rodrigo (Salamanca), donde fundó noble casa. El segundo, Pedro García C., se estableció en la villa de Arenas de San Pedro (Ávila). Líneas dimanadas de esos caballeros pasaron a Segovia y provincias de Zamora y León. También pasaron a Extremadura, Andalucía, Canarias y América. De Hernán García C. fué sucesor Diego C., que poseyó el mayorazo de la casa de Ciudad-Rodrigo. A ésta perteneció también uno de los más valientes y atrevidos conquistadores de América, conocido en la historia con los nombre de Fernán C., Fernando de Zafra C. y Hernán de Zafra C. Consta que era natural de Ciudad-Rodrigo y caballero hijodalgo. Pasó a Antioquía (departamento de la hoy República de Colombia), probablemente en compañía de su suegro el Capitán Taborda, el Viejo, de quien era hija doña Juana Taborda, su mujer. Fué el conquistador C. Teniente de Gobernador y Justicia Mayor de Antioquía durante los años de 1562 a 1590 y se ocupó, en compañía de Gaspar de Rodas, en la fundación de Cáceres, Zaragoza y otras poblaciones de aquel país. De su matrimonio con la citada doña Juana Taborda tuvo estas tres hijas: doña Juana, que fué esposa del Capitán Juan Jaramillo de Andrade, con sucesión en Antioquía; doña María, y doña Catalina. ...
