La nobilissima famiglia Cheriète trae le proprie origini dal villaggio di Gignot, sito nelle immediate adiacenze della città di Aosta, ed è di antichissima stirpe, il cui primo esponente di chiara nobiltà fu un Giovanni, cittadino di Aosta, il quale nel 1266 contrasse matrimonio con Giovannetta, vedova ed erede del nobile Bannone; per virtù di tale congiunzione, il suddetto Giovanni e la sua discendenza godettero del privilegio dell’esenzione da ogni carica, già concessa al medesimo Bannone dal Conte Amedeo di Savoja con atto datato 15 gennaio 1243. Pietro di Bonifacio, sacerdote e dottore in diritto canonico della cattedrale di Aosta, fondò in detta chiesa, nell’anno 1406, una cappella consacrata alla Santissima Trinità.
