Secondo una antica tradizione, i Comello, anche conosciuti come Comelli, sarebbero venuti dalla Francia al Castello di Nimis (Friuli). Essi sono stati antichi cittadini di Udine, patrizi di Gradisca e servirono la Repubblica Veneta nel 1460, sotto Bartolomeo da Bergamo. Domenico C., il 25 settembre 1504, ebbe una investitura feudale nei pressi di Gradisca.
