The Conte family of Italy traces its origins to an ancient noble tradition believed to be Pisan in origin, from which it came to Sicily through Reinero Conte, a knight who brought the name and prestige of the house into the Sicilian realm. Initially established in eastern Sicily, the family took firm root especially in Syracuse and Sciacca, distinguishing itself over time through military, religious, and civic service. As early as the beginning of the seventeenth century, sources record in Syracuse Pietro and Girolamo Conte, both Knights of the Order of Jerusalem, attested in 1613, a clear sign of recognized chivalric rank and full integration into the local aristocracy. At the same time, a branch originating from Savona also flourished in Syracuse, obtaining the baronial titles of Casalbianco and Goderano. Another line of the family, also recorded in some sources under the variant surname Conti, enjoyed recognized nobility in Messina and Palermo, where it played a prominent role in political and feudal life.
