La nobilissima famiglia Cornillons de Massoins trae le sue antiche origini dalla città di Nizza Marittima, ove le prime memorie certe ci conducono a Paolo, genitore dell’egregio avvocato Bartolomeo, il quale vide la luce in detta città il giorno 26 del mese di gennaio dell’anno del Signore 1627. Il suddetto Bartolomeo fu padre di Alessandro, che a sua volta generò Emanuele Filiberto. Questi fu padre di un altro Alessandro, il quale, decorato di virtù e onori, ricevette l’investitura della Contea di Massoins il dì primo di marzo dell’anno 1776, e passò a miglior vita nell’anno 1794. Alla sua morte, i figli non curarono di ottenere la rinnovazione dell’investitura; e così, giunta l’epoca della Restaurazione, sorse tra essi lunga e aspra contesa, che trovò termine nella Declaratoria Camerale del 16 giugno 1829. Con tale solenne atto, fu riconosciuto che il titolo comitale spettava di diritto al primogenito Giuseppe, da cui discende il riconoscimento ufficiale del titolo di conte nell’anno 1873, con l’ammissione della particella "de Massoins" quale semplice attributo onorifico al cognome.
