Il dottor Giovanni Cortellese ebbe un figlio, Bartolomeo, dalla moglie Anna, la quale, rimasta vedova, si rimaritò con un Clemente, genovese, valoroso capitano di una compagnia di 100 moschettieri nella fanteria di Savoia (24 maggio 1628). Costui adottò il figlio, di primo letto, di sua moglie, Bartolomeo Cortellese e fu capitano d'artiglieria e dei decurioni di Torino. Il 25 giugno 1687 egli acquistava dal conte Pierfrancesco Frichignono alcuni punti di Montanaro e ne era investito con titolo comitale il 31 maggio 1688. Discendono, da lui, una lunga serie di ufficiali valorosi e di gentiluomini di antica probità. Giuseppe, di Giacinto, di Paolo, di Clemente, di Giuseppe. Motto della famiglia: Virtute et vi.
