Assai nobile ed antico casato piemontese con rami familiari cospicui anche in territorio lombardo detto Costiglioli o Costiglioli il suo antico nome era Costanza o dei Costanzi; un ramo dimorava in Saluzzo e un altro in Costigliole da cui trasse il suo nome moderno. Il primo di cui si abbia certe memorie è un Guglielmo castellano di Saluzzo nel 1192, il quale ebbe numerosa discendenza da cui sortirono vari rami, che per distinguersi fra loro si appellarono alcuni Costanzi o di Costigliole, altri de Burgo, altri de Garro o Garroni, ed altri del Palazzo. Ad eccezione dei Costanzi, tutti gli altri rami si estinsero da oltre due secoli. Coprirono quelli le più cospicue cariche presso i Marchesi di Saluzzo.
