According to what has been handed down, it originated from the noble House of Cresci, a family from Montereggi and whose exponents exercised the dyeing art. From 1380 to 1525, the Cresci obtained fifteen times the priory and an Andrea, of Cresci, of Lorenzo, was "gonfaloniere" of justice in 1467 and in 1470, after his father had been of the Ten in charge during the war of Volterra, in the year 1420.
