According to what has been handed down, it originated from the noble House of Cresci, a family from Montereggi and whose exponents exercised the dyeing art. From 1380 to 1525, the Cresci obtained fifteen times the priory and an Andrea, of Cresci, of Lorenzo, was "gonfaloniere" of justice in 1467 and in 1470, after his father had been of the Ten in charge during the war of Volterra, in the year 1420. We also have to remember: the captain Migliore Cresci, who flourished in 1465, and Simone Cresci, who was Podestà of Palaia in 1621-1622. When the Cresci family became extinct in the main branch, it continued to flourish in its collateral branches, some of which, like the Crescioli one, partially changed the surname.
