Famiglia abruzzese antica nel patriziato di Aquila ricevuta per giustizia nell'ordine Costantiniano ai 6 settembre 1618. Paolo fu vescovo di Aquila dal 1349 al 1377. Biagio, generale agli ordini di Filippo V di Spagna, ottenne il titolo di marchese sul cognome nel 1704. Gaspare, insigne poeta latino, morto nel 1793. Ferdinando, morto nel 1861, fu senatore del Regno d'Italia. Nella famiglia s'estinse quella de Torres, nobile oriunda spagnuola, della quale ereditò i titoli di marchese di Pizzoli e barone di Cagnano, titoli riconosciuti, oltre a quello già detto di marchese sul cognome, con Regie Lettere Patenti I settembre 1907. Con Regio Decreto 2 ottobre 1897 fu autorizzato ad aggiungere il cognome de Torres al proprio.
