Nobility crown ErdiaFamiglia originaria di Sorrento, succeduta nei titoli di principe di Cursi e duca di Grottaglie alle famiglie Palomba, Caracciolo e Cicinelli. Al 1 dicembre 1651 Giovambattista, della illustre famiglia Cicinelli, ebbe la concessione del titolo di principe di Cursi mentre, al 28 aprile 1665, ebbe quello di duca di Grottaglie. I Cicinelli si estinsero in Giulia, sposata nel 1744 a Giacomo Caracciolo e che, per la legge napoletana di successione nobiliare, fu erede di quegli importanti titoli. Da questo matrimonio nacque Giovanni Caracciolo-Cicinelli, che ebbe due figli maschi: Gennaro e Gaetano, il quale vestì l'abito religioso. Con la morte senza discendenza di Gennaro (1853), Giovanni Andrea Palomba figlio di Anna Maria, sorella del predetto Gennaro, chiese ed ottenne con il Rescritto del 27 luglio 1858 il riconoscimento di quei titoli; e morto egli senza figliuoli, gli successe il fratello Giuseppe al quale, con D.M. 2 marzo 1879 gli stessi titoli ...
