La famiglia trae origine da San Venanzio. Nel 1841 ottenne in perpetuo la nobiltà ereditaria di Amelia e nel 1852 Claudio Faina otteneva dal Pontefice Pio IX il titolo di conte di Civitella de' Conti, ereditario per primogenitura, maschi da maschi. Con Real Decreto motu proprio 9 giugno e RR. LL. PP. 11 dicembre 1904, il valoroso patriota Zeffirino dei Conti Faina otteneva per sè e per la sua discendenza il titolo ereditario (mpr.) di conte. Personaggi notevoli in questa famiglia furono Eugenio, dotto archeologo, patriota reduce dalle guerre dell'indipendenza e volontario nella grande guerra italo-austriaca nella quale ebbe, per la sua specifica competenza, il compito della direzione dei lavori di rimboschimento con mano d'opera prigionieri di guerra. Era senatore del Regno dal 10 ottobre 1892 e fu presidente dell'Istituto Internazionale di agricoltura, nonchè dell'Istituto Superoire di Agricoltura di Perugia.
