On trouve dès le XIIIème siècle de nombreux personnages féodaux avec ce nom possionnés en Vivarais, Gèvaudan et Velay. En 1253 Arnaud, seigneur parier de Pradelles, fait un échange avec Randon de Châteauneuf, haut seigneur de Pradelles. En 1309 Pierre, seigneur en partie de Pradelles, fait divers hommage à messire Bernard de Castanet, évêque du Puy. En 1292 Falcon, seigneur du Villaret vend aux prêtres de Salgues sa terre de Sabret. M. Chassaing, historiographe du Velay, estime que les convenances synchroniques s'y prêtant fort bien la proximité topographique constitue un argument favorable à identifier tous les personnages dans une même famille. Cette ancienne maison avait déjà marqueé son passage en Vivarais, non seulement par l'Abbé de Mazan-Falcon, fondateur en 1284, de Villeneuve de Berg mais encore, au Bourg-Saint-Andéol, par noble Jan que l'on trouve bailli en 1378. Le 8 février de cette même année, en sa présence, le parlement général du Bourg, tenant ses assises sous l'orme où il se réunissait d'ordinaire, élut seize conseillers dont quatre par quartiers. Noble Jean venait de Pradelle; il devait sa nomination de bailli à l'évêque de Viviers, Bertrand de Chateauneuf-Randon originaire de la même ville et dont la familleétait en relations avec la sienne. En 1378 on le trouve consul du Bourg, le 1 mai 1381. ...
