Nobility crown FaniAntica ed assai nobile famiglia di Tuscania, una volta Toscanella, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Fin dal 1259, un Tobia era sindaco generale della sua patria. Molti di questa famiglia furono di Consiglio ed occuparono le prime magistrature. Fra i primi cinquanta cavalieri dell'Ordine Militare del Giglio, istituito dal Pontefice Paolo III, figurano Sebastiano Fani e suo figlio Paolo Vittorio. Nel 1559 la famiglia fu ascritta alla nobiltà romana e venne compresa nella Bolla Benedettina del 1746 ed in seguito figurò fra i Conservatori. Nel 1540 ebbe nobiltà viterbese e, il 19 settembre 1709, Vincenzo Fani, marito di Maria Paola Monaldeschi Della Cervara, fu reintegrato nella stessa nobiltà di Viterbo.
