Antica ed assai nobile famiglia del Nord Italia, oriunda da Brescia e conosciuta come Ferretto o Ferreto, passata a risiedere primieramente in Padova e poi in Vicenza nel 1262, con un Ferreto, notaio imperiale in quella città. Successivamente la famiglia si è propagata in diverse città del Veneto, con un cospicuo nucleo in Mestre. La famiglia in Vicenza esercitò con onore l'arte notarile, essendo molti dei suoi membri iscritti al Collegio notarile di Vicenza.
