Nobility crown FigueredoApellido de origen portugués. Don Antonio de F. Sarmiento, Sargento Mayor de Infantería y caballero Mayorazgo, era natural de Villanueva de Braganza en Portugal. Con su esposa Doña Francisca Borges Silveira, de la villa de Chaves, fueron padres de don Francisco Javier Manuel de F. Sarmiento, nacido en Villanueva el 25 de octubre de 1693. Desde muy joven entró al servicio del Rey de España, hallándose en las campañas de Cataluña en 1718, Andalucía, Valladolid y Ceuta. Siendo Capitán de una Compañía de Infantería agregada al Regimiento de Toledo, pasó a Tenerife por Orden Real en 1726, siendo nombrado Visitador de las Armas y Gente de Guerra de la isla de la Gomera.
