Descende esta família de D. Pelaio Fruela, o Diácono, e de sua segunda mulher, D. Aldonça Nunes. Seu filho D. Pelaio Pelais, senhor de Peramo de la Foceya, nas Astúrias, e de diversos estados desta província e da Galiza, casou com Muma Dona chamada Maior Gonçalves, conforme refere a escritura de doação que fez no ano de 1097 do mosteiro de S. Pedro á Sé de Oviedo, Esta senhora era parenta muito próxima do grande Rui Dias, o Cid. Entre vários filhos tiveram D. Froila Pelais, senhor do primitivo solar da família, no concelho de Someniego, nas Astúrias, teve o senhorio de Paramo de La Foceya, viveu no reinado de D. Afonso VI, sendo muito herdado e poderoso em Someniego e Teverga. Está sepultado em Teverga, junto do concelho de Someniego, em epitáfio que declara a filiação. Seu filho Pelaio Froilaz esteve no concílio que a Rainha D. Urraca celebrou eem Oviedo, em 1115, e no de 1120 confirmou a doação que D. Andarquina fez à igreja de Burgos. Sucedeu na casa paterna e nos senhorios que este possuiu nas Astúrias, e foi senhor do forte de Coiança, lugar modernamente chamado S. João. Tomou o partido da Rainha D. Urraca contra o Rei D. Afonso VII, seu marido, o qual o mandou cercar em Coiança, que apesar de defender com grande valor se ciu obrigado a entregar, ficando prisioneiro do Rei. Este perdoou-lhe, não sem lhe confiscar grande parte dos bens, mas por fim o teve muito na sua graça. Timbre: um porco-esphinho de negro, com os espinhos de ouro. ...
