Antica famiglia sarda, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. In considerazione degli alti meriti di Onofrio (di Bolotana) e del suo genitore, nonché delle particolari condizioni di agiatezza della loro famiglia, Filippo III, re di Spagna, con diploma in data 3 ottobre 1602, concedeva al predetto Onofrio ed ai suoi figli e discendenti maschi da maschi il titolo di cavaliere e l'uso dell'arma gentilizia. In seguito, con altro diploma del 23 dicembre 1613, fu concesso il titolo di nobile trasmissibile, come quello di cavalierato, ai figli ed ai discendenti maschi da maschi. Questa nobile famiglie intervenne, per tale sua qualità, alle riunioni dei Parlamenti Generali della Sardegna. Ai discendenti maschi spettano i titoli di cavaliere (m.), nobile (mf.), don (mf.), ed alle femmine i titoli personali di nobile e di donna.
