La noble casa de los Golfín, de la ciudad de Cáceres, fue de las más antiguas y poderosas. En los instrumentos antiguos se nombra a sus individuos unas veces F. y otras Golfines. No se puede precisar su origen, aunque en algunas crónicas se lee que vinieron de Francia. Ya en tiempos muy antiguos se distinguieron los Golfines por lo belicosos en Extremadura y en otras regiones, tanto que los Reyes otorgaban mercedes a los que les hiciesen la guerra. A base de esto concedió Alfonso X el Sabio, ciertos privilegios a la Orden de Calatrava. Con idéntica condición autorizó Sancho IV el Bravo a Fernán Pérez de Bati, Caballero de Plasencia (Cáceres), para edificar sus casas fuertes de morada en la cabeza de Beluri, con treinta vasallos que pudieran defenderse de los Golfín y hacerles guerra, y bajo el mismo compromiso concedió a Pedro Sánchez de la Cámara el lugar de Jaraizajo, en cuyo término tenían aquéllos el castillo de Lájara y otros. También Fernando IV el Emplazado, como consta de su privilegio dado en Burgos el 8 de Septiembre de 1295, cedió a García Sánchez, de Trujillo, el lugar de Val de Palacios, que estaba en poder de los Golfines. Y en las Cortes de don Sancho IV celebró en Valladolid en 1293, tratando de la penas de la cercanía, determinó "que no sean tenudos de pechar los daños que ficiesen a los Golfines los pastores, cuando pasasen con sus ganados". Consignan también las antiguas crónicas, que fueron los Golfín tan poderosos y tuvieron castillos y casas fuertes. ...
