Apellido castellano. Procede de la ciudad de su nombre, partido judicial de Briviesca, provincia de Burgos, desde donde se extendió por toda la Península. Una rama pasó a América, estableciéndose así mismo en Canarias. En la isla del Hierro hubo una familia de apellido F., oriundos de la isla portuguésa de Madeira, de la Casa de los Condes de San Miguel. El Maestre de Campo Don Bartolomé de F., Gobernador de las Armas de la Palma, era natural de Plasencia y, después de haber servido en Flandes, se estableció en Canarias. Fue su mujer, Doña Isabel Cordero y Coello. Sus padres Don Bartolomé de F. Salazar y María Núñez, eran también vecinos de Plasencia, en Extremadura. Hijo de aquel matrimonio fue Don Simón de F. Coello, Regidor de La Palma y Alcalde Mayor de Tenerife, que de su matrimonio con Doña Espreranza Vandewalle, tuvieron a Don Gaspar de F., Castellano y Alcaide de las Fortalezas de La Palma. Caballeros de este linaje probaron su nobleza en las Ordenes de Santiago, Calatrava y en la Real Chancillería de Valladolid. Don Enrique F. Salazar y Torres Vildórsola fue creado Marqués de Agoncillo en 7 de junio de 1875. Otra casa muy antigua. Del Archivo General de Indias tomamos la información siguiente: Juan Gómez de Frías, natural de Villar del Pedroso, soltero, hijo de Juan Gómez de Molina y de Bernardina de F. emprendió viaje a Nicaragua desde Sevilla para hacerse cargo de la cuantiosa herencia que su hermano le legó a su muerte el 6 mayo 1578 y que ocupaba el cargo de Oidor en Nicaragua, sabemos además que dejó 3 hijos en España y tuvo seis en América, los cuales reconoció a todos y los dotó con largueza, según consta en su testamento. ...
