Dos solares distintos hubo de este apellido: uno en la villa de Gainza (cuyo nombre tomó), del partido judicial de Tolosa, en Guipúzcoa, y el otro, en el lugar de Gainza (cuyo nombre también tomó), del Ayuntamiento de Araiz y partido judicial de Pamplona. Una rama del solar guipuzcoano de la villa de G. se estableció en el barrio de Iciar, cercano a Deva, y de ella fué Manuel José de G. y Barrenechea, bautizado en Deva el 22 de Marzo de 1738, que obtuvo Real provisión de hidalguía en la Chancillería de Valladolid el 19 de Junio de 1784. Otra rama radicó en Tolosa, y otra en el barrio de Ibargüen del Ayuntamiento de Ceánuri y partido judicial de Durango (Vizcaya), apellidándose G. Otra rama del solar navarro creó nueva casa en el lugar de Villanueva del Valle, del Ayuntamiento de Araquil y partido judicial de Pamplona, procediendo de esta nueva casa una línea que se estableció en Pamplona, tra que pasó a América y otra que moró en el lugar de Ollo, del partido de Pamplona. De esta última procedieron los hermanos Juan, Felipe y Diego G., vecinos de San Sebastián, cuya nobleza les fué reconocida por los Tribunales de Navarra en 1695. También hubo otra línea del mismo solar navarro en la villa de Villafranca, del partido judicial de Tudela, y de ella fué José de G. y Aguirre, vecino de dicha Villafranca, a quien también ratificaron su nobleza los Tribunales de Navarra en 1778. ...
