Prescindiendo de los orígenes fabulosos que algunos tratadistas atribuyen al apellido G., nos concretaremos a decir que en la antigüedad se usó mucho como nombre propio la voz Galindo, y que de este nombre propio se derivaron los apellidos patronímicos G. y Galíndez, que han llevado desde tiempos remotos familias de muy distinta procedencia. En el año 1716, figura como elector de Garci-Ximénez, Señor de Amescua y de Abarzuza, pretendiente al trono de Navarra, Galinco Obequiz. Jerónimo de Zurita en sus "Anales de Aragón" y otros historiadores, hacen mención de un caballero llamado G. Aznar, segundo Conde de Aragón, que era hijo de Aznar Mitarra, primer Conde de Aragón en 780, nieto de otro Aznar, biznieto de Eudón, Duque de Aquitania y tercer nieto de Andeca, Duque de Cantabria. De dicho segundo Conde de Aragón, G. Aznar, fué hija doña Teuda, que casó en el Infante Fortúm Garcés, luego Rey de Navarra, y procrearon a Sancho I Garcés, que sucedió en el trono a su padre en 815. En una carta que San Eulogio mártir escribió desde Córdoba a Ubisedo, Obispo de Pamplona, excusándose de no haberle enviado las reliquias que le había pedido de un santo mártir, dando por causa la invasión de los moros, añadía que Don G. de Niconis había determinado marchar a Navarra, de donde era natural, y que con persona tan grave y nombe, se las remitiría. La fecha de esta carta es de 851. Otra casa muy antigua. Juan G. natural de Talavera de la Reina, hijo de Alonso G. y de María Brava, con su mujer Isabel de Montenegro, natural de Talavera de la Reina, hija de Rodrigo García Caramaño y de Leonor de Quiñones y sus hijos María, Juan, Rodrigo, Jerónimo, Antonio, Leonor, Alonso, Diego, y Hernando, emprendió viaje a Nicaragua el 7 julio 1578 desde el puerto de Sevilla, según consta en el Archivo General de Indias. ...
