According to what has been handed down, Don Dios Ayudo had seven sons and all of them served the King Don Alfonso XI in the Battle of the Salado. After the battle, Don Dios Ayudo and his sons paraded in front of the aforementioned Monarch, who, seeing them carryng the weapons, said "Garridos sons you carry!" (actually "Aguerrito", coming from war) referring to the bravery of the seven sons and hence from here originated the surname that the descendants assumed. It is also said that the aforementioned King to honor them, granted them the order of the Band, a military order, instituted in 1332.
