Dice Garma y Durán que este apellido es catalán y que tuvo su casa solar en la villa de Ager, del partido judicial de Balaguer (Lérida). De ella procedió Tomás de G., casado con doña Magdalena de Ahunés, también natural de Ager, a la que hizo madre de Magdalena de G. y Ahunés, que casó con Onofre de Copóns, habilitado en Cortes en 1626 y 1632 (hijo de Miguel Juan de Copons, caballero de la Orden de San Juan, y de su mujer doña Angela, señora de Malmercat), naciendo de esa unión Jacinto de Copóns y G., que contrajo matrimonio con doña Magdalena de Esquerrer, con sucesión que llevó otros apellidos. Este linaje de G., de Cataluña, entroncó con el de Sobíes, por el casamiento de doña Gertrudis de G. con Ignacio de Sobíes. En la villa de Uncastillo, del partido judicial de Sos (Zaragoza), moró una línea de G., de la que fué Juan G. que casó con doña Ana Fernández y fueron padres de Juan G.
