Nobility crown GondiGli antichi storici e genalogisti che scrissero dei Gondi, raccolsero volentieri la tradizione che li faceva discendere dai Filippi posti da Dante fra i più antichi abitatori di Firenze; più precisamente da quel Braccio Filippi armato cavaliere da Carlo Magno nel 786. Ma è una tradizione che non si appoggia ad alcun documento; e sembra perciò preferibile considerare come loro capostipite quell'Orlando di Bilicozzo, che nel 1197 sedeva nel consiglio del Comune, se per capostipite si deve intendere colui che una famiglia inaugurò le fortune. Forte, figlio di Orlando era fra gli Anziani nel 1204, e Gondo di Ricovero, suo nipote dal quale i Gondi trassero il cognome, segnava con altri cittadini, nel 1251, un trattato di alleanza tra il Comune di Firenze e la Repubblica di Genova.
