La nobile famiglia Del Guanto, altresì conosciuta con le forme Guanto o Guanti, costituisce un vetusto e illustre lignaggio toscano, originario della città di Firenze, articolato in due distinti rami familiari, dei quali non è dato sapere con certezza se appartenenti alla medesima agnazione. Un primo ramo annovera tra i suoi membri Bernardino e Nicolò, che ricoprirono l’alto ufficio di Priore rispettivamente negli anni 1389 e 1429, segno della dignità e del prestigio goduti dalla casata in seno alle istituzioni repubblicane fiorentine. Il secondo ramo della famiglia vide Girolamo di Piero di Simone elevato alla medesima carica nel 1488, mentre Simone di Girolamo, suo discendente, fu annoverato tra i capitani delle milizie cittadine nell’anno 1528, conferma dell’impegno civile e militare della stirpe.
