Tal casata, secondo quanto ci viene tramandato, appartenne alla nobiltà terriera ed ebbe su alcuni feudi il titolo signorile. Inoltre essa, nel dispiegarsi dei lustri, sempre è riuscita a produrre una serie di uomini che hanno reso illustre il suo nome, nei pubblici impieghi, nelle professioni liberali ed ecclesiastiche e nel servizio militare. Fra questi, senza nulla levar al valore degli omessi, contasi: Tommaso, proprietario terriero nel reggino, fiorente nel 1501; D. Giuseppe, protonotario apostolico in Spagna, fiorente nel 1537; Luigi Maria, dottore in l'una e l'altra legge, fiorente in Reggio Calabria, nel 1561; Gio. Batta, capitano d'armi, fiorente in Cosenza, nl 1589; P. Giacomo, dell'Ordine dei Minori Riformati, fiorente in Reggio Calabria, nel 1602; Antonio Maria, Regio Notaio, vivente in Napoli, nel 1631; Alessandro, protomedico alla Corte Napoletana, vivente nel 1646; Giuseppe, il quale servì il re di Spagna durante la rivolta di Masaniello del 1647; Tommaso, dottore in "utroque jure", vivente in Reggio Calabria, nel 1676; Agostino, notaio, vivente in Reggio Calabria, nel 1699; Pietro Paolo, proprietario terriero nel reggino, fiorente nel 1703; Benedetto, dottore in l'una e l'altra legge, fiorente in Reggio Calabria, nel 1727. Purtroppo la descrizione originale del blasone è andata perduta. Tuttavia, sulla scorta di congetture e ricostruzioni araldiche, riteniamo che esso dovesse essere: "Di rosso al leone d'oro lampassato del campo e armato di nero". Il leone d'oro nello scudo rosso in araldica simboleggia infatti generosità per i benefizi ricevuti e magnanimità in animo grande e nobile. I cognomi così antichi, senza dubbio alcuno, rendono decoro non solo alle famiglie ma anche alle città che li hanno accolti; pare siano, infatti, molto riguardevoli i soggetti viventi di questa famiglia che, con tanto decoro, sostentano questo nobile cognome, che ha avuto vari soggetti illustri. ...
