Nobility crown HerránLa esclarecida y antigua familia Herrán, cuyo nombre también se halla escrito sin acento, Herran, tuvo su solar primigenio en la noble tierra de Nates. De este linaje, muchos fueron los que, por méritos y limpia sangre, alcanzaron a probar su hidalguía en las venerables Órdenes militares de Santiago, Calatrava, Alcántara, Montesa, Carlos III y San Juan de Jerusalén. Entre sus descendientes se halla don Francisco de Cossío y de la Herrán, natural de la noble villa de Santillana, quien, movido por el espíritu de aventura y honra, pasó al virreinato del Río de la Plata, estableciéndose en la ciudad de Tucumán. Allí contrajo nupcias con doña Manuela de Villafañe y Araoz, natural también de dicha ciudad, hija del valeroso capitán de caballos don Diego de Villafañe Guzmán y Corvalán de Castilla, y de su esposa doña María de Araoz y Echave, ambos de estirpe igualmente ilustre y de linaje probado. Así se enlazaron dos casas de noble abolengo, perpetuando con honra y virtud el apellido Herrán en las tierras del Nuevo Mundo. ...
