Después que el rey don Jaime I de Aragón venció a los moros entre Murcia y Orihuela, llegó triunfante a Alcaraz, ciudad que hoy pertenece a la provincia de Albacete, donde le esperaba el rey de Castilla don Alfonso X "el Sabio", con su hija doña Leonor, primera esposa del monarca aragonés, y el infante, su nieto, que le recibieron con cariño y entusiasmo por sus éxitos guerreros. Pero don Jaime prendóse en aquella ocasión de descanso y regocijos de una dama de la corte de Castilla, llamada doña Berenguela Alfonso, que era hija del infante don Alfonso de Molina y de doña Teresa Fernández de Braganza y prima del monarca don Alfonso X "el Sabio". Logró que dicha dama le siguiera a Aragón, y con ella vivió después algunos años, naciendo de esas relaciones Pedro Fernández, hijo natural como hemos visto, del rey don Jaime I "el Conquistador". Gozó del estado y baronía del H. (villa de la provincia de Teruel). Casó en primeras nupcias, con doña Teresa de Entenza, y en segundas, con doña Marquesa Gil de Rada (hija de Tobaldo I, rey de Navarra, conde de Champaña, y de doña Marquesa López de Rada, llamada también doña Marquesa Gil y López). De su primer matrimonio con doña Teresa de Entenza no tuvo sucesión, naciendo de su segundo enlace con doña Marquesa Gil de Rada, este hijo Pedro Fernández de H., que fue segundo señor del estado y baronía de H., alférez señalero de la Santa Iglesia Romana y virrey de Aragón desde 1286.
