En esa capital, el mencionado Girolamo, por su pericia en disciplinas forenses, obtuvo importantes riquezas, lo que le valió la adquisición de numerosos privilegios y la adscripción a la clase noble. El origen de la cognominización, según genealogistas autorizados, se remonta a una forma hipocorística del nombre compuesta por la contracción y el apocope de «Giovanni» combinados con el nombre «Querido», de donde primero «Giovancaro», luego «Giaccaro» y finalmente «Iaccaro», de ahí el hipocorístico «Iaccaro», probablemente llevado por los fundadores.
