Nobility crown IstellaIn seguito al matrimonio di un Amei Istella, da Borgomaro, con una Scrigna, nativa del villaggio di Leca, la famiglia passò due secoli or sono a dimorare in Leca presso Albenga, dove prosperò vivendo civilmente. A metà del sec. XIX, Francesco si trasferì in Argentina e impiantò a Buenos Aires un prospero commercio; un'altra linea, quella di Arcangelo, si è fissata in Savona. Il ramo rimasto in Leca si è illustrato ereditando tradizioni e ricchezze dalla casa dei marchesi D'Aste, nella quale si era di recente estinto un ramo degli Istella della Riviera di Ponente. Difatti Giuseppe sposò Marina, sorella dell'ammiraglio Alessandro D'Aste Istella, ultimo di quella illustre famiglia, e il loro figlio Marcello, oggi ammiraglio d'armata e senatore del Regno, ebbe concessione (23 giugno 1812) del titolo di Marchese mpr. e facoltà (19 sett. 1912) di alzare le armi sopra descritte.
