L'origine de cette famille est des plus certaines, mais elle se trouve extrêmement embrouillée à cause d'un grand nombre de membres qu'il n'est pas possible de relier entre eux par une filiation commune et régulière. A ce même nom, on attribue un signe distinctif de noblesse représenté par le blason que l'on reproduit ci-dessous et qui confirme aussi à travers ses emblêmes, au point de vue historique et héraldique, l'assurance d'une valeur historique de patrimoine, de noblesse et de valeur. Nous transcrirons les personnages les plus marquants tels que nous les avons rencontrés dans les sources bibliographiques consultées: Jean, écuyer dans une montre de 1420; Guillaume, ratifie la capitulation de Dinan avec le maire et plus saine partie des bourgeois dudit lieu, en 1488; Jean, vivant en 1480, épouse Gillette Joussom, dont: Jean vivant en 1513, marié à Marguerite Lenfant; autre Jean, capitaine des francs-archers et élus de l'évêché de Rennes en 1555, épouse Jeanne de Rochefort; quatre chevaliers de Saint-Michel depuis 1571, dont un lieutenant de cinquante hommes d'armes, gentilhomme de la chambre du roi Henri IV en 1602.
