In conformità all'antico uso invalso in Sicilia e nelle province meridionali di anteporre al cognome l'articolo "Li". Questa Casata venne detta Li Sciti o Li Scioti e poi col cognome attuale. Dal materiale storico risulta l'appartenenza della Stirpe alla nobiltà baronale delle Puglie poichè è annoverata fra le famiglie patrizie di Barletta. Attraverso Francesco di Giuseppe nato nel 1753, deceduto in Palmi il 28.11.1833, sposato con Antonina Ranieri. Tali sono i principii, che da sopracitati Autori si diedero a questa famiglia, ma per esser questo fatto assai remoto, e d'historia molto lontana, lasciamo perciò a più eruditi delle sacre antichità, e dell'historie l'investigarne il suo certo principio. Quel che però di certo habbiamo, è che la casata per la loro antichità, e splendore, e per virtù militare, carrichi così laicali, come Ecclesiastici, e per ogno altro preggio di Cavalleria ...
