Nobility crown LonginoAntica ed assai nobile famiglia italiana che, secondo la tradizione, discende dal celebre Cassio Longino, centurione romano, nato ad Anxanum da nobile prosapia, che, secondo la tradizione cristiana, con la sua lancia trafisse il costato di Gesù crocifisso, per accertarne la morte. La linfa che defluì dal fianco divino lo guarì da un'infermità oculare e lo convertì. Longino abbandonò quindi la milizia, venne istruito nella fede dagli apostoli e se ne andò a Cesarea di Cappadocia, ove condusse una vita di santità, prodigandosi per la conversione dei Gentili, ed infine subì il martirio, morendo decapitato. Un antichissimo testo letterario, il primo che parla di Longino, cioè l’Epistola XVII di san Gregorio Nisseno riporta fra l’altro che già nel secolo IV, Longino era considerato l’evangelizzatore della Cappadocia come gli Apostoli, singolarmente, lo erano di altre regioni.
