Nobility crown MaidaLa Nobile famiglia Maida, o Mayda, originaria di Palermo, insignita del possesso del feudo di Linguaglossa, vanta una illustre tradizione di servizio pubblico e militare. Un Salvatore Maida rivestì la dignità di pretore di Palermo negli anni 1320-1321, mentre un Nicolò esercitò la medesima carica nei trienni 1349-1350, 1352-1353 e 1354-1355. Un Simone fu annoverato tra i senatori della medesima città nel biennio 1406-1407, e un Giovanni ricoprì l’ufficio di capitano di giustizia in Mazzara nell’anno 1533-1534. Un Giuseppe, infine, fu nominato procuratore fiscale supernumerario presso il tribunale della Gran Corte nel 1683. Numerose famiglie, tra cui la stessa casa Maida o Mayda, durante il dominio della Real Casa d’Aragona, stabilirono la propria schiatta in Sicilia o vi assunsero eminenti cariche, seguendo l’augusto Federico II, incoronato re a Palermo nell’anno 1296. In tale periodo travagliato, non mancarono le pretensioni della Casa d’Angiò, né le censure ecclesiastiche da parte del Sommo Pontefice; vi fu altresì un tempo in cui lo stesso Giacomo manifestò dislealtà e ostilità verso il proprio fratello e verso quella nazione che con fedeltà l’aveva servito.
