I Mareschal De Luciane costituiscono una delle più vetuste e insigni casate della Savoia, il cui nome trasse origine dall’illustre ufficio di maresciallo, tramandato di padre in figlio nei secoli XII e XIII. Il primo esponente di tale stirpe, di cui si abbia certa menzione, è Petrus Marescalus, testimone in un atto di donazione del 1190. Guiffredo, il quale si ricollega genealogicamente al suddetto Pietro e fu uomo di grande rilievo, ricevette nel 1197 il titolo di barone e ricoprì egli stesso la carica di maresciallo presso la corte del conte Tommaso I di Savoia. Da lui trae origine la discendenza della famiglia, con legami genealogici saldamente attestati.
