Nobility crown MathisDas Geschlecht Mathis, ausgezeichnet durch seine ehrwürdige Herkunft und seinen erhabenen Adel, stellt ein altes piemontesisches Haus dar, dessen Ursprung in der Stadt Bra zu suchen ist und das mit den gräflichen Titeln von Cornegliano und Cacciorna beehrt wurde. Durch gewissenhaften Fleiß im Werk und unablässiges Studium wurde es bereits in der Mitte des sechzehnten Jahrhunderts unter die Geschlechter der Vornehmsten seiner Heimat gezählt. In verschiedene Linien unterteilt, entsprang aus einem dieser Zweige, der vom Notar Stefano, der zu Beginn jenes Jahrhunderts lebte und Vater des Doktors beider Rechte Antonio Andrea war, der Advokat Carlo Camillo, welcher als Richter zu S. Damiano d’Asti und später als Vizekriegsauditor diente. Tommaso, Sohn des Genannten, erlangte ordnungsgemäß die adlige Belehnung durch die Verleihung des Lehens Caccierna, wobei ihm im Jahre 1720 der gräfliche Titel zuteil wurde. Carlo Mathis, einem anderen Zweige entstammend, nahm nach dem Erwerb eines Teils der Gerichtsbarkeit von Cortemiglia den Titel eines Grafen jenes Lehens an. Seine einzige Tochter Antonietta verehelichte sich mit ihrem oben genannten Vetter Tommaso, welcher die eigene Linie bis in die Gegenwart fortführte. ...
