Nobility crown MazzeoAncient and noble Italian lineage of Norman origin, dating back to the 12th century. Originally divided into two principal branches in Nola and Messina, this family played a significant role in Sicilian and Neapolitan aristocracy. They were adorned with the Angevin lily and were part of the Patriciate of the "Sedile di Porto" in Naples until at least the early 15th century. One of their notable members, Francesco Mazzeo, saw his daughter Angiola marry Francesco Mastrilli in 1431. The family's historical records begin in the second half of the 13th century, with Raimondo Mazzeo Griffo, a knight in the service of King Manfred of Sicily, documented in Foggia in 1260. During the late 15th century, Giovanfelice Mazzeo was an ambassador for King Ferrante of Aragon, while Vincenzo Mazzeo represented King Ferdinand II of Aragon and served as a royal commissioner for Jewish taxation in southern Italy. By the late 16th century, several Mazzeo family members held prestigious positions in Messina.
