La famiglia Mei di Castelfidardo riconosce quale suo capostipite un Sante vivente tra il secolo XVIII e XVIII. Essa fu tra le principali della propria patria e dette chiari personaggi. Sono da ricordare un Andrea, rinomato giureconsulto, Arciprete a Belvedere Ostrense dove costruì a proprie spese la chiesa di S. Maria; morì nel 1821 di anni 80 circa. Teodoro, avvocato di chiara fama in S. Rota, lasciò la sua ricchissima biblioteca ai propri nipoti Giov. Battista ed Andrea, di Sante. Morì nel 1839 di anni 50 circa. Questi nel 1855 lo donarono al Municipio di Ancona che in tale occasion decorò loro e discendenti del titolo di Nobili di Ancona. Gio. Battista suddetto, nacque il 7 febb. 1819, ricoprì importanti cariche sotto il Governo Pontificio e poi sotto quello Italiano.
